Each Tuesday morning two members of our staff volunteer their time to work with small groups of students at our local elementary school. We participate in several presentations at several other locations throughout the Johnston County school system and have an active "shadow" program for high school students who are interested in veterinary medicine as a career.
For 20 years, we have been a ribbon sponsor for the 4-H youth program which has their shows at this event. We believe that caring for animals can foster a sense of responsibility and maturity in young people, and 4-H is a wonderful after school activity that can help kids who love animals learn more and practice their skills. Over 125 youth participate in this event every year.
Willowrun is a major sponsor of the dog walking event that is apart of race day. The race brings attention to the importance of physical activity for health and raises money for two of the Johnston County Health Foundation's charity programs: the heart fund and the healthy kids fund.
We are an annual sponsor of this event which raises money to provide scholarships for local students at Johnston County High Schools and Johnston Community College. Dr. Smith is a charter member and past president of the Rotary Club of Central Johnston County. Throughout the year, our practice supports Rotary's many other local charitable events including food drives and back to school supplies.
