Dr. Rebecca Hansen, DVM

"As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. Growing up my family only had one dog (a golden retriever named Sandy) and one cat (an orange tabby named Tiger). Of course with time this grew to include a few more cats, some guinea pigs, a rabbit, three horses (which we still have today!), and even an iguana and a tarantula (no those were not mine!) Looking back on all of the animals that have impacted my life, I realize that they have each helped me find this calling at a young age. When I turned sixteen I began working for our family veterinarian at North Fork Animal Hospital and the rest is history. So if you have asked me how long I have been practicing veterinary medicine, now you see why I may say "it seems like forever," but I wouldn't have it any other way!"

Dr. Rebecca Hansen obtained her Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Cornell University in 2003, and went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Hansen worked at the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory on Plum Island, NY for two years, followed by another two years of research in immunology with the North Carolina State University Department of Microbiology.

Dr. Hansen enjoys working with all species of animals. She is especially interested in equine reproduction and dentistry as well as small animal medicine and surgery.

Dr. Hansen grew up on the North Fork of Long Island, NY but has made North Carolina her home since moving south in 2006. She lives in Clayton, NC with her two horses, Laura and Bucky, and three border collie mixed breed dogs. In her free time, Dr. Hansen enjoys line dancing, riding horses, and hiking with her dogs.
